Boards Impact Forum and Chapter Zero Poland are pleased to host this joint webinar exploring what board directors across the Nordics and Europe need to understand about governing under conditions of conflict, attrition and strategic threat.
Across Europe, boards are navigating a new reality. Hybrid attacks on critical infrastructure, energy system disruptions, cyber warfare and the long shadow of armed conflict are no longer distant risks — they are present conditions that boards in Ukraine, the Baltics and now Western Europe are already managing. The Leipzig airport incident is one signal among many that the geography of conflict is expanding. Most Nordic and European boards are not yet asking the questions they need to ask.
This webinar brings together board directors with direct, first-hand experience of governing under conditions of active conflict and active preparedness — from Ukraine’s frontlines to the Baltics — to explore what practical governance lessons Nordic and European boards should be drawing now, before they need them.
The discussion will address how supervisory boards can:
Govern critical infrastructure under conditions of physical threat, cyber attack and operational disruption
Maintain strategic direction and long-term planning when the future is fundamentally uncertain
Build board-level resilience capabilities including crisis governance, business continuity and physical and cyber security oversight
Understand what governing under wartime conditions demands — and what that means for boards operating in an era of expanding hybrid threats
Draw lessons from Ukraine and the Baltics that are directly applicable to boards across the Nordics and Europe
Insights gathered will contribute to Boards Impact Forum’s ongoing research on how boards can strengthen their strategic oversight capabilities in the face of interconnected global transformations.

Laura Garbačiauškaitė-Bakiėnė — Independent Supervisory Board Member and Audit Committee Chair, Energoatom | Founder, Baltic Economist
With almost 30 years of experience across Lithuania, the United States and Ukraine, Laura is an independent board member, audit committee chair and governance expert who has worked with public and private sector organisations from government infrastructure and energy companies to fintechs and startups. She currently serves as Independent Supervisory Board Member and Audit Committee Chair at Energoatom, Ukraine’s national nuclear energy generating company, where she is contributing to corporate governance reform, audit oversight, risk management and resilience during a period of unprecedented wartime challenge. She also chairs the Audit and Risk Committee at Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant in Lithuania and serves on audit committees at the Port of KlaipÄ—da and the National Development Bank of Lithuania.
Oksana Volchko — Independent Board Director | Finance & Investment Advisor | Corporate Governance & ESG Expert
An experienced non-executive director and executive leader with over 15 years of governance, strategic oversight and ESG expertise across banking, state-owned enterprises and sustainability initiatives in Ukraine, Europe and the CEE region. She currently serves on the Supervisory Board of Ukrmilkinvest and as a Board Member of Caritas Ukraine, and is a member of the Supervisory Board of Chapter Zero Ukraine & Caucasus. She holds governance qualifications from INSEAD, Oxford SaĂŻd Business School and the London School of Economics, and is a certified alumna of the Boards Oversight of Responsible AI for Value Creation programme.
