Governing Risk and Opportunity:

European Boards Turning Resilience into Competitive Advantage

Boards Impact Forum and Chapter Zero Netherlands are pleased to host the second webinar in the European Boards Growth & Resilience Series, developed in collaboration with the Chapter Zero Alliance and several European Chapters, namelly Chapter Zero France, Chapter Zero Brussels and Climate Governance Initiative Greece.

European companies are operating in a landscape shaped by geopolitical fragmentation, energy transition pressures, strategic dependencies, rapid regulatory developments such as the EU Green Deal, CSRD and CSDDD, and intensifying global competition. In this environment, the role of supervisory boards is evolving rapidly.

The question for boards is no longer only how to protect organizations from disruption, but how to govern risk and opportunity in ways that strengthen long-term resilience and competitiveness. This session, taking place on the 23 April 2026 from 08:30 – 10:00 AM CET, focuses on the Risk and Opportunity principle of the Chapter Zero Alliance governance framework and explores how boards can move beyond defensive risk management toward more proactive strategic positioning.

The discussion will address how supervisory boards can:

  • Identify and oversee emerging risks linked to climate, nature and global transitions
  • Reframe systemic disruptions as opportunities for innovation and growth
  • Understand strategic dependencies in energy systems, supply chains and critical resources
  • Strengthen governance practices that support long-term competitiveness and resilience

The webinar will feature insights from leading board members and governance experts and will be moderated by Liselotte Engstam, Chair of Boards Impact Forum.

Speakers include:

  • Andreas Rasche, Professor of Business in Society and Associate Dean at Copenhagen Business School. His research focuses on ESG governance, corporate sustainability and responsible business. He is widely recognized for his work on how organizations integrate sustainability into strategy and governance, including research on global supply chains and multistakeholder initiatives such as the UN Global Compact.
  • Marguerite Soeteman-Reijnen, Dutch business leader with extensive experience in risk management, insurance and corporate governance. She spent 34 years at Aon, most recently as Chairman of Aon Holdings Netherlands. She currently serves as a non-executive director at Siemens Nederland and MN and chairs the Social Advisory Council of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
  • Wendy Bor, Supervisory board member at Ampleon and Geodelta with a background in technology leadership and international business transformation. She has held senior roles at Shell, Ericsson, Suez, SAIC and Ascom, leading major digital and innovation programs. Her expertise spans AI governance, digital transformation and strategic resilience in global organizations.
  • Terence O’Rourke, Chair, ESB (state owned Electricity Supply Board), RTE (Raidió Teilifís Éireann is Ireland’s national public service media organization), Ballymore Properties Ireland and Kinsale Capital Management. He previously served as Managing Partner of KPMG Ireland and was a member of KPMG’s Global Board and Executive Team. Terence has extensive experience in corporate governance, finance and strategy across international markets.

The session will combine keynote insights, board-level discussion and interactive breakout conversations among participants. Insights gathered during the webinar will contribute to the development of the European Boards Growth and Resilience Roadmap, a cross-European initiative aimed at strengthening board leadership for sustainable competitiveness.
