Reshaping Governance in a Sustainability Era – ESG Board Pulse 2023 – Sep 7 at 12-13.30 CET

What is the state of ESG on Boards?

What is the progress and key trends, capabilities and new board practices emerging?

The call for sustainability and climate action to be integrated into corporate strategy across the full spectrum of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues is reshaping economies, companies and their governance.

Increasingly, sustainability has become part of board directors’ responsibility and gaining priority on board’s agenda as its importance continues to permeate across the fabric of business and society.

Yet, the question endures on whether boards are ready to address the sustainability challenge amidst relentless waves of disruptions such as generative AI, new trade risks, geopolitical uncertainty, regulatory changes, and other issues arising on the boardroom table.

Organised by Boards Impact Forum, Climate Governance Initiative together with INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre, the Webinar and Digital Dialogue on September 7 at 12-13.30 CET, will dive into the latest findings of the jointresearch study developed collaboratively by INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre, BCG and Heidrick & Struggles, with respondants also from Boards Impact Forum and Climate Governance Initiative, to gain insights on how sustainability is reshaping governance and the work of board directors starting from the selection and evaluation of board directors, adopting long-term strategy and mindset, and modelling strong leadership.

The findings reveal that though significant progress has been made on boardroom awareness and understanding of the sustainability agenda, availability and a self-declared lack of expertise at the board level has resulted in a gap between intentions and prioritisation of the environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda.

Join us for an interactive exchange, as we showcase the research highlights presented by Ron Soonieus, Director in Residence with INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre and Senior Advisor, Boston Consulting Group, and Alice Breeden, Partner of Heidrick & Struggles’ London office.

It will be followed by a breakout room discussion with fellow Board Directors, and a stimulating panel discussion with distinguished guest panellists, amongst others, Julie Baddeley, Chair Climate Governance Initiative and Professional NED, and Jeff Scott Professional NED and Chair and Board Member INSEAD Directors NetworkBente Sollid Storeghaug, board member of Boards Impact Forum, Chair and NED at both listed and private companies and Sonia Tatar Executive Director, INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre and INSEAD Wendel International Centre in Family Enterprise and Board Member at Chapter Zero France, who will comment on the findings and share their experience and observations on the shifts in the boardroom as well as the practices that could bridge the gap to drive positive impact on sustainability from aspirations to desired outcomes.
